Long Weekend Getaway
Romantic long weekend getaways are a great way to strengthen your relationship. It is amazing how the stress melts away after only a few hours in different surroundings.
Our most recent long weekend getaway was to New York City. We stayed in a hotel near Central Park and spent our first day exploring and taking in a Broadway play. The next day we took a guided bus & boat tour of Manhattan, followed by a visit to the top of the Empire State Building. We spent the final day exploring Central Park, including Strawberry Fields dedicated to the memory of John Lennon, and finished off with another Broadway show! Highly recommended!
And, if cities are not your thing, consider a romantic getaway to a local National Park or tourist attraction, such as Niagara Falls. Enjoy a voyage on the Maid of the Mist past the American Falls to the heart of the Horseshoe Falls. A romantic (and wet) experience not to be missed!
Fly and Drive
Fly and drives allow you to select your preferred destination area and then rent a car to explore at your leisure. This is an ideal anniversary vacation idea because it lets you spend lots of time together exploring new surroundings.
One of our favorite fly and drives was to San Francisco where we hired a car and drove down the west coast to Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur – what a beautiful trip!
Cruise
Cruises have become very popular for anniversary vacations. Once you’ve embarked, all of your worries disappear and you are treated to a constant stream of food and entertainment options. And the biggest benefit is that you arrive at exciting new destinations every day without ever having to repack your suitcase and leave your hotel room!
All-Inclusive Resorts
All-Inclusive Resorts provide unparalleled luxury at great value, with a wide-range of food, drink and entertainment usually at no additional cost!
Located mainly in sunny destinations, these resorts are particularly common in the Caribbean and Mexico.
Package Tours
Package Tours offer the opportunity to explore the world with the security of an exerienced tour guides who can provide a constant stream of information about your destination.
Our 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii was with Trafalgar Tours and we were very impressed and would not hesitate to use them again.
Do-It-Yourself
Do-It-Yourself anniversary vacations allow you the freedom to arrange your own itinerary. The large number of online websites has made it easier than ever to make your own travel arrangements.
To celebrate our 30th anniversary, we booked our own do-it-yourself anniversary vacation to Malaysia, Singapore and Bali. We were particularly impressed by the island of Bali in Indonesia which has many interesting attractions including spectacular beaches, surfing, Hindu temples, monkeys, volcanoes, motorbikes and more! Join us on our romantic 30th wedding Anniversary Getaway to Bali to see more photographs and stories from this incredible anniversary destination.
Fishing and Speciality Anniversary Vacations
Another type of anniversary vacation idea for couples is to turn your favorite hobby into a vacation, e.g. horse-riding or canoeing. In our case, we were lucky enough to win an all-expenses paid fishing vacation to Totem Resorts in Lake of the Woods, Canada.
We had a fantastic time, caught lots of fish, and enjoyed some wonderful meals. Check out our Lake of the Woods Fishing Report to see the fish that didn't get away!
Another really special anniversary vacation was centered around going swimming with dolphins in Florida. We spent two glorious weeks in Orlando where we had the chance to swim with dolphins at Discovery Cove.
Known as one of the most expensive theme parks in the U.S., it is actually great value if you factor in that, in addition to being all-inclusive for food and drink, it also includes unlimited access to one of three other theme parks, all of which are world-class: SeaWorld, Aquatica or Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay.
Bon Voyage!
