Wedding Anniversary Trips
Celebrating your anniversary is essential to a strong and healthy relationship, and there is no better way to celebrate than by taking a romantic wedding anniversary trip together.
New surroundings provide the opportunity to leave behind your everyday worries, explore new horizons and rekindle your love for each other.
And when you hit those milestone wedding anniversaries, nothing is more romantic than a 'second honeymoon' to an exotic destination.
This article looks at some of my favorite types of wedding anniversary trips, ranging from long-weekend getaways in local cities, to package tours in some of the most exotic locations in the world!

Types of Wedding Anniversary Trips
You have lots of choices of how to experience romantic wedding anniversary trips. Here are some of the options that you might want to consider:
- One Night Stays
- Long Weekend Getaways
- Fly and Drives
- Cruises
- All-Inclusive Resorts
- Package Tours
- Do-It-Yourself Trips
- Fishing or Hobby Vacation
One Night Stays
One Night Stays are a great way to turn an evening function into a romantic getaway. Next time you are invited to attend a wedding, anniversary or birthday party, book a hotel room and stay over. You’ll be able to enjoy the party to the fullest, spend an intimate night with your partner, and have a relaxing buffet breakfast the following morning. Then complete your mini-break by spending the morning in the pool or spa, then act like a tourist and visit some local attractions.
Long Weekend Getaways
Romantic long weekend getaways are a great way to strengthen any relationship. It is amazing how much you can see and do in a relatively short space of time. Recently my wife and I visited New York City for a long weekend. Although we live 10 hours away by road, it was a short 90 minute hop by plane. We stayed in a hotel just south of Central Park and spent our first day exploring our surroundings and taking in a Broadway play. The next day we took a five-hour guided bus & boat tour of Manhattan, followed by the obligatory, but exhilirating, visit to the top of the Empire State Building. We spent the final day exploring Central Park and finished off with another Broadway show! Highly recommended!
Fly and Drives
Fly and drives allow you to select the general destination area and then rent a car to explore. Again, these anniversary trips allow you lots of time together exploring new surroundings. One of my favourite fly and drives was to San Francisco where we hired a car and drove down the west coast to Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur – what a beautiful trip!
Cruises
Cruises have become very popular for wedding anniversary trips. Once you’re on board, all of your worries disappear and you are pampered with a constant stream of food and endless entertainment options. And, of course, the real benefit is that you arrive at an exciting new destination every day without ever having to leave your hotel room!
All-Inclusive Resorts
All-Inclusive Resorts provide unparalleled luxury and value, with unlimited food, drink and entertainment.
These are one of my top anniversary destinations because they are fairly close to home, and easy to get to.
Usually found in sunny destinations, these resorts are particularly plentiful in Mexico and the Caribbean.
Package Tours
Package Tours offer the opportunity to explore the world in a safe environment. Usually led by experienced tour guides, they provide a constant stream of information about your destination while taking care of all of your travel and accommodation needs. Our 25th wedding anniversary trip to Hawaii was with Trafalgar Tours and we were very impressed and would not hesitate to use them again.
Do-It-Yourself Trips
Do-It-Yourself wedding anniversary trips allow you the freedom to arrange your own itinerary. The recent proliferation of online websites has made it easier than ever to make your own travel arrangements, one of my favorites being Expedia.ca.
To celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, we booked our own do-it-yourself wedding anniversary trip to Malaysia, Singapore and Bali. The island of Bali is in Indonesia and it has many interesting attractions including spectacular beaches, surfing, Hindu temples, monkeys, volcanoes, motorbikes and more! Take a look at our romantic Anniversary Getaway to Bali to see more photographs and stories from this incredible anniversary destination.
Fishing or Hobby Vacation
Another type of wedding anniversary trip for couples is to turn your favorite hobby or pastime into a vacation, e.g. horse-riding. In our case, we were lucky enough to win an all-expenses paid 5-day fishing vacation to Totem Resorts in Lake of the Woods, Canada.
We had a fantastic time, caught lots of fish, saw lots of wildlife, and enjoyed some wonderful meals. Check out our Lake of the Woods Fishing Report for all the details.
